The Most Misunderstood Breed in the World
This is a topic which is near and dear to my heart and that is the American Pit Bull Terrier. The American Pit Bull Terrier is one of the most misunderstood breeds alive today. Until two years ago, we have raised them as Professional Breeders for 34 years. We have three children and 5 grandchildren and not one of them have ever been bitten by one of our dogs. My sons have taken bones out of the mouths of these dogs without so much as a growl. They have all ridden them like horses in their youth. We still have two as our pets to this day and can’t imagine life without them.
Not until drug dealers started training Pit Bulls to attack other people did you ever hear of a Pit Bull biting someone. I do believe Pit Bull mixes are responsible for most of the people attacks you hear in the news. If the dog even remotely resembles a Pit Bull then that is how it is reported. While I don’t have documented proof, I have a personal belief that Pit Bull mixes do possess the ability to become unstable during their life and that you can only truly trust a purebred dog for a family pet. I am completely against breeding a Pit Bull with any other breed because of this reasoning.
Pit Bulls have a long and distinguished history serving man and as family animals. Remember the dog in the Little Rascals – “Pete” – well Pete was a Pit Bull Terrier. Do you think Hollywood would have used a “viscous” dog for a children’s television show. Remember the old Coppertone ads where the dog was tugging on the girls bikini bottoms – a Pit Bull again. Think back to the old Buster Brown series in the 1920s…Pit Bull again.
I am going to discuss the characteristics of the American Pit Bull Terrier Below and give you details of one of the most “famous” Pit Bulls of all time – SGT Snubby.
